On the Hunger Games set in Berlin, Germany, Michelle Forbes, who plays the character of Lieutenant Jackson, received several injuries. The injuries came as a result of stunts gone awry and the intense production schedule, with Forbes spraining an ankleand injuring a knee. An insider from the set told FOX411, “She is recovering and seeing a specialist,” also stating that the film set is “pandemonium.”

Contrary to what was reported from the source on set, a Lionsgate-affiliated insider denied the existence of any injuries and reported that filming is running on schedule. Liam Hemsworth, another Hunger Games star, was also disclosed to have sustained an injury; in photos from on set, the actor is shown to be limping, suggesting an injured ankle.

Treatment for ankle injuries is possible at home, but having the input of a doctor is always helpful. If you would like information on self-care for an ankle injury, speak to Dr. Jeffrey Conforti of New Jersey. Dr. Conforti will answer any of your foot- and ankle-related questions.

How Does an Ankle Sprain Happen?

This type of injury takes place when the ligaments are torn or stretched beyond their limits. There are multiple ways that the ankle can become injured; however, even the simple act of walking may cause a sprain. If footing is lost or you are walking on uneven terrain, ankle damage may occur.

  • Mild to moderate bruising
  • Limited mobility
  • Swelling
  • Discoloration of the skin, depending on severity

Self-care for ankle sprains includes propping the ankle up and keeping it elevated, applying ice packs as needed, and remaining off your feet. Some may also find that wrapping the ankle with an ACE bandage and taking over-the-counter pain relievers are helpful.
